System requirements
- This software requires Java version 1.6. You can check your installed version at the help page
- A screen resolution of 1280x1024 pixels is recommended. These games will work on lower resolutions, but you may find yourself scrolling a lot, especially for the jigsaw.
- A lower-resolution configuration is one of the features planned for next release.
Features
Choose from 7 photographs for one of three games:
Jigsaw puzzle
Click on the image for a larger screenshot:
- Tile shape - square or hexagonal
- Number of pieces (approx. 12 to 250)
- Individual pieces and smaller connected groups always "float" above larger connected groups, making it practically impossible to lose a piece.
- Random shape generation - non-uniform shapes guarantee that no two plays will be the same.
Sliding tile game
- Number of pieces (8, 15, or 24)
Spinning tile brain teaser
Seven hexagonal pieces are arranged on the board. By clicking on the point where three of them intersect, you can spin them around each other as you try to unscramble them.
When I designed this one, I had no idea how difficult it would actually be; I have yet to solve it. So if you are into challenges, here's one for you!
Updates
2010.03.02 This release fixed two minor display issues:
- Game option selections (image, puzzle type and tile shape) were not displaying properly on Mac systems.
- The rotation direction indicator on the rotating tile puzzle wasn't always being drawn or erased properly.
Continuing development
The software is stable and playable, but it is still very much a work in progress. Here are some features planned for the next major release:
- Midi music
- Save/load game for the jigsaw puzzles
- Image preview
- More intelligent detection and use of screen space, including:
- Play area size and shape
- Image resizing for low-resolution screens
- (possibly) a fullscreen option
- Configuration settings in a popup dialog to free up more space - Let me know how I can improve these puzzle games: email jon.hulka@gmail.com
